Inflatables SUPS? Here’s my take…

Boga Inflatable-2Inflatables SUPS? Here's my take...
By Kevin Kearney

I have to admit, as a fan of traditional boards, I was a little skeptical. But then I have a trailer for hauling and space to store all of our long boards. But for those of you who don't, or even when I myself want to take a quick short spin around the lake, the traditional boards have their cons. So, when BOGA debuted the Boga Air, we tried it and same when Rogue debuted the Skiff, and I was pleasantly surprised. Megan was able to do yoga on the boards they were so stable and it took me less than 5 minutes to manually pump the board! So here is what I thought...

Shipping, storing and transporting traditional 10'-12' stand-up paddleboards can be challenging. Inflatable SUP boards, on the other hand, deflate and inflate on-demand and can be rolled up into a backpack bag that you can put in an overhead compartment on a plane. Suddenly, stand-up paddleboarding becomes mobile and your board becomes easy to store.

Store one on your boat. Bring one with you on your tropical vacation. Haul one up to your favorite hidden mountain lake. Inflatable SUP boards are extending the reach of stand up paddle boarding to every corner of the globe.

These aren't your typical inflatable water toys either. They are military grade, highly pressurized and distinctly shaped rubber stand-up paddleboards that are unbelievably rigid. In fact, we carry inflatable SUPS that can carry a 200+ pound person!

As with all boards, selecting the best construction is very important which is why we carry BOGA and Rogue boards. Both companies use a 6” Linear Drop Stitch core material for extreme stiffness in addition to a high tensile uni-directional center stringer. This construction makes our Air SUPS sturdy, stiff and responsive – more like a standard epoxy board.

For those of you who worry that pumping your ride my keep you from playing, I say have no fear! The boards blow up in under 5 minutes manually or you can purchase an Airhead Air pump, an electric pump that plugs into your car lighter, which pumps up your board in nearly half the time.

Tuition Funding for Liam

Last year, we started seeking to help people who were medically/physically in need of yoga but couldn't necessarily afford it. We are honored and humbled to provide scholarships for yogis in need. We feel like it is our karma work to give back to the community. We started our monthly meditation classes that raise money for monthly expenses and you have been a huge help.

But something has been heavy on our minds... meet Liam. He has worked with us off and on for nearly a year. We just adore him and see such a difference when he is able to do yoga. We'd love to be able to develop a comprehensive care plan for Liam including kids yoga, yoga and monthly private lessons.

FullSizeRenderBut we need your help!

Liam, 10, brings joy to all who know him! He was diagnosed with Juvenile Dermatomyositis [JDM] when he was 5. JDM is an autoimmune disease that affects all muscles in body with weakness, stiffness, and a loss in range of motion.

His activities are limited as sun exposure triggers his JDM so he has to find indoor activities that help strengthen him and make him more flexible. His doctors prescribed him several different therapy options but insurance would not cover the full cost of his therapies and the out of pocket expense was outrageous so his family began searching for other options. This search led to yoga and specifically to Ebb & Flow through his grandmother "Maga" Cathy Warr.

"Yoga opened a whole new world for Liam," writes FullSizeRenderKirsten Warr, Liam's mom. "As a boy who can't play sports and do what most other boys cans do, he was missing the physical confidence in knowing that his body is strong and capable to perform. Yoga has given him that -- he has begun to see himself as strong! When he holds a hard pose or finishes an hour adult class he has such pride in himself."

"Yoga has also helped in his flexibility and range of motion issues," adds Kirsten. "His doctors noticed right away the change in his tightness of calves and heels when he started yoga. Yoga has been an all around gift in Liam's life and we only wish we would have thought out of the box and tried yoga therapy sooner."

We are hoping to raise at least $700 to bring Liam and his mom into the studio for classes for the year!

Can you help us meet and exceed our goal? Every little bit will help! Drop your donation in the jar at the front desk. AND, when you see Liam,be sure to introduce yourself!

Get Involved: Atlanta Homeless Christmas Ministry

Screen Shot 2015-12-08 at 1.36.08 PMThe Ebb & Flow family is part of the Atlanta Homeless Christmas Ministry that visits the homeless on Christmas morning. The mission of the organization is living to glorify the Father through serving by building relationships in families and neighborhoods, building community where live and beyond and casting a vision for our children and the next generation to see the preciousness of others.

Founded by the Cade Family of Grayson, the Atlanta Homeless Christmas Ministry collects clothing and more the Georgia's sheltered community and communes with our brethren on Christmas day serving them coffee, cocoa and other needed items

We invite you to participate by donating the following items and bringing them to the studio, by attending the sorting day to organize donations, and to attend and participate in the Christmas day handout.

These gifts are given to the "street people" who are not in shelters. Loving others in this way has become a big part of building community in our children's hearts. Seeing God's provision through the donation of others is a miracle in itself. The items below are simple needs these people have asked for. If you would like to be a part of the giving or presenting of this amazing ministry, we would love to have you join us!

Coats (adults-new or used)New socks
Men/women's pants (sweat pants or adjustable waist are awesome)
Men/women's sweat shirts
Hat, scarves and gloves
Chapsticks, tissues, toothbrushes & paste, deodorant
Rain ponchos
Sleeping bags
Book bags

We will meet at Grayson First Baptist Church on a Saturday, TBA in December.  Over the past 6 years, they have graciously allowed us to use their Gym (for no charge). It is crucial to sort items ahead of time.  We can serve more efficiently if we are presorted. Cash donations are used to buy items that fill our toiletry bags.

We will meet in the HWY 78 Big Lot’s parking lot (near Provino’s) at 7:00AM…Christmas Morning.  We will actually have a short meeting to exchange phone numbers and to pass out blueprints for the set up.  We will drive down about 7:15ish, which puts our arrival around 8ish. We do our best to assign families to a specific task before arriving.  It is such an act of God seeing how everything just works so beautifully.
Please let us know what you are interested in participating in and if you like, join the Atlanta Homeless Christian Ministry Facebook page for direct details and information.
